U.S. President Joe Biden says Georgia’s current restrictive voting law is ‘an Atrocity’. He wants to change the voter law in Georgia states.
President Joe Biden made the remarks in a statement on Friday, according to the BBC.
He says Georgia’s restrictive voting law contains restrictions that target black Americans.
Biden also called it a blow to the constitution. He added that the Georgia law needs to be brought to the attention of the judiciary.
In last year’s US presidential election, Joe Biden won Georgia as the first Democratic candidate since 1992.
Analysts believe that Biden’s victory is due to the votes of black Americans. However, there are also allegations of vote theft in Georgia.
Georgia has been under discussion in the US election for some time. Earlier, during the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump alleged that votes had been stolen from him in Georgia.
Democrats took control of the U.S. Senate after Republicans lost in Georgia last January. Although the Democratic Party has won, Georgia’s state government is still controlled by the Republican Party.
Recently, Republicans introduced the ‘Election Integrity Act’ in the state legislature. Last Thursday, the law was passed in both chambers of the Republican-controlled state legislature.
