Afghan President Ashraf Ghani rejects the Taliban leader’s proposal for new election. He set to offer a new presidential election in the next six months.
Rejecting the US offer, he said he could make the offer as part of a peace deal.
They say Ashraf Ghani will present his proposal at an international conference in Turkey next month. A report by the news agency Reuters has given this information.
There are indications that the United States may reject Ashraf Ghani’s offer to overthrow the elected government and hand over power to the interim administration.
However, Afghan President Ghani’s condition is that he will only attend the international conference in Turkey if Mullah Omar’s son, Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhunzada or Mullah Yaqub, attends.
Last year, after nearly two decades of war, Washington promised to withdraw troops from Afghanistan by May 1 this year.
Washington is pushing for a peace deal between the government and the Taliban.
However, talks in Qatar have been postponed by Afghanistan. The Taliban has called for the overthrow of the Western-backed regime in Kabul.
Although the United States has offered to form an interim government, Ghani’s government has refused to step down and hand over power to an unelected person.
Instead, the Ghani government is talking about holding early elections as an alternative. But for that, the Taliban must stop firing. The United States has not commented on the report.
