House of Representatives passes a bill calling for the implementation of the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution to remove President Donald Trump from power in the wake of the Capitol Hill attacks.
Earlier, Vice President Mike Pence was called upon to take steps to remove President Donald Trump from power through the implementation of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, but he refused, CNN reported.
Mike Pence made it clear on Tuesday evening that he had no such plans. A few hours later, when the proposal came up in the House of Representatives, it was passed.
Democrats, already prepared for Mike Pence’s refusal to implement the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution, are now working hard on the impeachment motion.
The proposal to impeach President Trump for the second time is already ready. The House of Representatives is set to vote on the proposal on Wednesday.
According to CNN, Jamie Ruskin a Democrat from Maryland proposed removing Trump from power by implementing the 25th Amendment in the House of Representatives.
The motion calls on Mike Pence to expeditiously exercise the powers vested in him by Article 4 of the 25th Amendment, urging cabinet and executive branch officials to declare that the president is incapable of carrying out his duties. The proposal also calls on Pence to take over as acting president.
Before the proposal reached the House of Representatives, Mike Pence sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging him to step down.
In the letter, Pence wrote, “With just eight days left in your presidency, you and your Democratic Caucus are demanding that the Cabinet and I implement the 25th Amendment.” I do not believe that such a move would be in the best interest of the nation or in maintaining the continuity of the constitution.
In this situation, the Democrats are moving fast on the path of impeachment of Trump for the second time. Democrats have named lawmakers as potential prosecution managers to represent the party during an impeachment hearing in the Nancy Pelosi Senate on Tuesday.
Jamie Raskin is the chief manager. Also in attendance are Colorado Representative Diana Doggett, Rhode Island Representative David Cecilia, California’s Eric Swalwell, Texas ‘Joaquin Castro, California’s Ted Liu, California’s Virgin Islands’ Stacey Plasket, Colorado’s Joel Negwin.
But Democrats will also have a section of Republican lawmakers in favor of this impeachment motion. CNN quoted a source as saying that Republican member of the House of Representatives Liz Cheney called her colleagues to a “conscious vote” in Wednesday’s impeachment vote in a conference call last Monday.
The lawmaker, who has spoken out against Donald Trump’s attempts to spread false information and overturn the election results in the run-up to the November election, has already announced a vote of impeachment.
