YouTube has taken action against and suspends the popular One America News Network (OANN) channel for promoting fake Covid-19 cure.
The channel claimed that there was widespread fraud in the US election. YouTube temporarily suspends the OANN channel, saying it violates their policy.
But they were not banned for spreading false information surrounding the US election. A fake video was aired on the channel, claiming that the Covid-19 would be the cure.
That is why action was taken against the channel. This information has been reported in a report of the New York Times.
YouTube authorities say they have a three-strike policy to ban any channel. YouTube has launched a strike against the channel. This means that OANN will not be able to upload any new videos for up to a week.
The matter was confirmed by YouTube on Tuesday. As a result of this action, the channel will not be able to earn money from YouTube ads.
A statement from YouTube said, “Since the beginning of the epidemic, we have been working to prevent the spread of fake information on YouTube around Covid-19.” After an in-depth review, we went on strike at OANN’s video. The video called for a definitive solution to the Covid-19.
If OANN wants to earn money from that channel again in the future, it will have to apply to YouTube again.
However, YouTube does not have a policy on false claims about elections. Earlier, a video published on the channel refused to remove YouTube. The video claims that Trump has won the 2020 election. The video was uploaded the day after the election. At that time, no media outlet officially predicted the election.
