The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially approves Gilead Sciences antiviral remdesivir drug for coronavirus treatment. The news agency Reuters reported this information.
The FDA formally approves the remdesivir drug for use in hospitalized patients for the treatment of coronavirus disease on Thursday.
Following the FDA’s move, the first and only drug approved for the treatment of coronavirus in the United States is remdesivir.
The drug is given intravenously. Remdesivir was used to treat US President Donald Trump. when he was affected by the coronavirus.
Presidential elections will be held in the United States on November 3. Ahead of this election, Trump took part in a final debate with his electoral rival, Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden, last week. Hours before the debate, the FDA approved Remdesivir.
Rremdesivir has been in use since last May under emergency FDA approval. Now, they have given the drug official approval.
